Our second Meet & Greet was well attended. Several old friends and new friends gathered at the Bead Creation Station in West Ocean City, MD, for an afternoon of sharing questions and answers about glass and lampworking. I demonstrated how even just one reactive glass can give you many variations in color by adjusting heat, oxygen, and propane content. The group asked many interesting questions and anyone who was able answered them.
A bunch of us met on Sunday, December 10, 2006, to share ideas and a general fascination with glass work. Chad Trent of Soleil et Lune in Roanoke, VA, shared 5 hours of demonstrations and informal teaching in the hot shop upstairs in Bead Creation Station. Downstairs, visitors and customers enjoyed beverages and snacks throughout the afternoon. Glass and materials were donated by Marcie Davis (check out her Lauscha Color of the Month Club) and Ross Thackery of ABR Imagery. Dennis Breining also gave us some course catalogs for Salem Community College which has an awesome school for artistic and scientific glass. Everybody got a nice care package of samples and catalogs to carry home.
Chad was very generous with his time and his knowledge. We traded glass, bought some of Chad and Amanda's pendants and marbles, and shared a lot of fun. One lucky glass student even traded one of his blown pumpkins for two of Amanda's pendants. They both thought they got the better end of the deal. By the way, Chad and Amanda are opening up a brand new store front on January 1st, 2007, in Salem, VA. Stop by and see them! I know I will. Enjoy the pictures below.
The next Meet & Greet is slated for March, 2007. I'll post as soon as the exact date is firm. Come and join us! You don't have to blow glass, just be interested in learning!
